Xiaomi 18 Pro Set for September 23 Launch, Could Arrive With Massive 8,500mAh Battery

Xiaomi 18 Pro Series Launch Set for September 23, Bringing Bigger Batteries and New Features

Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will be unveiled in China on September 23 at 7:00 PM local time. Interestingly, the standard Xiaomi 18 will not be part of the launch event, with reports suggesting it has been pushed to late 2026 or early 2027 instead of debuting alongside the Pro models.

Ahead of the launch, Xiaomi shared official images revealing several key upgrades. Both smartphones will feature Leica-powered camera systems, ultra-slim 0.99mm display bezels, HyperOS 4, and a redesigned secondary display on the back. Battery capacity is also getting a major boost, with the Xiaomi 18 Pro packing a 7,000mAh battery, while the Pro Max will offer a massive 8,500mAh cell.

Bigger Batteries Take Center Stage

The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max's 8,500mAh battery is 1,500mAh larger than the one inside the Pro model and significantly bigger than the battery used in last year's Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

Xiaomi says the new batteries use a silicon-rich design with 32% silicon content. This technology allows manufacturers to increase battery capacity without making devices noticeably thicker. While a larger battery often means longer usage times, actual battery life will still depend on factors such as software optimization, processor efficiency, and user habits.

Although impressive, these batteries are not the largest in the smartphone industry, with some devices already offering capacities exceeding 11,000mAh.

High-Resolution Camera Setup

Both smartphones are expected to feature a 200MP main camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens. However, Xiaomi has not yet revealed details about sensor sizes or lens specifications, meaning image quality differences may still exist despite the matching megapixel counts.

Expected to Feature Next-Generation Snapdragon Chips

Xiaomi has confirmed that both devices will run on a 2nm chipset platform but has not officially named the processor.

Industry observers expect the phones to use Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite series chips, which are expected to be announced during Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit taking place from September 22 to 24 in Hawaii.

The 2nm manufacturing process is designed to improve power efficiency and performance, helping devices deliver better battery life while handling demanding tasks more effectively.

Rear Display Returns With New Features

The secondary rear display introduced with the Xiaomi 17 series is making a comeback. This year's version is larger and blends more seamlessly into the camera module.

Xiaomi is also introducing AI-powered customization tools that allow users to create personalized cards and widgets for the rear screen through simple text prompts within HyperOS 4.

Pricing Still Under Wraps

Official pricing has not yet been announced. However, industry expectations point toward higher prices compared to the previous generation.

For reference, the Xiaomi 17 Pro launched at CNY 4,999, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max started at CNY 5,999. Rising component and memory costs across the smartphone industry could contribute to a price increase for the new models.

More details, including full specifications and pricing, will be revealed when Xiaomi officially launches the Xiaomi 18 Pro series on September 23.
