KARACHI: The Sindh Emergency Council has approved a 7% increase in salaries for Rescue 1122 employees and also extended the contracts of all contractual workers for an additional year.
The decision was made during the council’s sixth meeting, which was chaired by Gianchand Essrani, Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister. During the session, members reviewed the performance of Rescue 1122, along with its financial matters, administrative affairs, and employee welfare initiatives.
Speaking at the meeting, Director General Rescue 1122 Brigadier (Retd.) Wajid Subhagtullah Mehr highlighted the organization’s achievements since its launch. He stated that Rescue 1122 has provided emergency and medical assistance to more than 1.33 million people and has successfully saved 5,238 lives in different emergency situations.
According to the DG, the emergency service currently handles over 10,000 calls every day and operates with a workforce of 1,723 personnel supported by a fleet of 149 vehicles across the province.
The council also approved a Rs30 million compensation package for Rescue 1122 personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty.
In addition, members discussed welfare measures for employees, including health insurance and pension benefits. It was decided that these proposals would be forwarded to the provincial cabinet after final consultations. The Sindh Finance Department will also be approached regarding the approval of additional allowances for staff.
During the meeting, officials stressed the importance of maintaining high service standards and issued strict warnings to employees whose performance was found to be unsatisfactory.
The latest decisions are aimed at improving employee welfare while strengthening the province’s emergency response system and ensuring better services for the public.
