Teachers With Results Below 20% Could Lose Their Jobs, Says Rana Sikandar Hayat

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced strict measures against teachers and school administrations linked to poor academic performance in government schools across the province.

The move comes after authorities identified nearly 2,200 government schools where the pass percentage in recent examinations remained at 20 percent or below. According to the minister, schools that continue to produce weak results will face closer scrutiny, and those responsible may be held accountable.

Rana Sikandar Hayat stated that teachers associated with consistently poor performance could face disciplinary action, including removal from service. He emphasized that the government intends to take firm action in cases where student results remain unsatisfactory over a period of three to five years.

The minister also revealed that heads of schools where Grade 9 results fell below the 20 percent mark have been directed to submit explanations within three days. District education authorities have already begun evaluating the performance of the schools identified in the review.

Alongside accountability measures, the government is introducing initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes. Schools facing academic challenges will receive additional support through School Teaching Interns (STIs), particularly subject specialists who can help strengthen classroom instruction. Officials say around 25,000 STIs have already been deployed in different parts of Punjab.

Rana Sikandar Hayat stressed that the objective is not only to address poor performance but also to encourage excellence in education. Teachers and schools that achieve outstanding results will be recognized and rewarded for their efforts.

According to the minister, these reforms are part of a broader strategy to raise teaching standards, improve student achievement, and enhance the overall quality of education in government schools across Punjab.
