Punjab Police Dismisses 588 Officers Over Corruption Charges

Punjab Police Takes Action Against 588 Personnel in Anti-Corruption Drive

Punjab Police has launched a large-scale accountability campaign, taking disciplinary action against 588 officers and personnel over allegations of corruption and misconduct. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Inspector General Punjab Rao Abdul Karim and was reported on September 14, 2026.

According to official sources, the crackdown resulted in the suspension of 178 police personnel, while 53 officers were removed from service. The remaining individuals faced various disciplinary measures based on the nature of the allegations against them.

The action was initiated after authorities reviewed 185 intelligence reports along with 69 complaints submitted by members of the public, prompting a province-wide investigation into misconduct within the force.

Several districts recorded significant numbers of cases. Lahore topped the list with 56 actions taken, followed by Rahim Yar Khan with 37 cases, Multan with 30, Nankana Sahib with 27, and Bhakkar with 25.

The disciplinary measures affected officers from multiple ranks, including 154 sub-inspectors, 123 assistant sub-inspectors, 52 head constables, 147 constables, and 44 traffic police officials.

Police sources said some personnel were accused of facilitating drug traffickers and tampering with records related to narcotics cases. These allegations formed part of the broader investigation into corruption and abuse of authority.

To strengthen oversight, the Punjab Police chief has also directed stricter monitoring of police stations and driving licence offices. The move is aimed at improving transparency, increasing accountability, and restoring public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

The latest crackdown reflects ongoing efforts by Punjab Police to address misconduct within its ranks and enforce higher professional standards across the province.
