Power Minister Says Night-Time Load Management Saved Consumers Rs. 10.6 Billion
Pakistan’s Power Division has claimed that steps taken to manage electricity consumption during nighttime hours helped save consumers from an additional financial burden of Rs. 10.6 billion in August 2026.
Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari shared the figures on September 15, stating that the initiative also contributed to a reduction in the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for August. According to the minister, the FCA fell to around Rs. 1.73 per unit, compared to Rs. 2.0851 per unit recorded in July.
Leghari said the improvement was made possible through better fuel management, increased reliance on locally available energy sources, and additional domestic gas supplies. These measures reduced the dependence on expensive imported fuels and helped conserve valuable foreign exchange reserves.
The government has been using night-time load management as part of its broader strategy to lower electricity generation costs. By reducing power demand during specific hours, authorities were able to limit the use of high-cost fuels required for electricity production.
Fuel Cost Adjustment is a monthly charge that reflects fluctuations in the cost of fuel used to generate electricity. When fuel expenses decrease, the FCA is lower, which can reduce the extra amount consumers pay through their electricity bills.
According to the Power Division, these efforts are aimed at improving the efficiency of the energy sector, reducing fuel-related expenses, and easing pressure on the country’s power system while keeping electricity costs under control.
