DG ISPR Says Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye Will Jointly Decide Response Under Makkah Defence Pact

Pakistan’s Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has stated that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye will collectively determine their response if any member of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement faces an attack.

In an interview with Al Arabiya English, Lt Gen Chaudhry explained that the agreement does not mandate an automatic military reaction. Instead, the member countries would evaluate the situation together and decide on an appropriate response through mutual consultation.

He described the pact as a defensive framework designed to strengthen collective security, deter threats and promote peace and stability in the region. According to him, the agreement is not intended for offensive purposes and is not aimed at any specific country.

His remarks come at a time of increased regional tensions following reports from Saudi Arabia that a drone was intercepted near Makkah. Saudi authorities linked the incident to Yemen’s Houthi movement, while the group denied any involvement in targeting the holy city.

The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in August 2026, aims to enhance security cooperation among the three countries. Discussions are still ongoing regarding the practical implementation and operational details of the agreement.

The DG ISPR emphasized that the partnership is based on consultation, coordination and collective decision-making, with the primary objective of safeguarding regional peace and security.
