Samsung Takes Another Swipe at Apple With ‘Tim Cook Switched to Galaxy’ Joke

Samsung has once again taken a lighthearted jab at Apple following the launch of the company’s first foldable iPhone. This time, the playful remark came from Samsung New Zealand, which shared a post claiming that “Tim Cook has switched to a Galaxy phone.”

While the statement quickly grabbed attention online, Samsung clarified that it was not referring to Apple CEO Tim Cook. Instead, the post featured another individual with the same name from Palmerston North, New Zealand. The company used the coincidence as part of a marketing campaign to promote its latest foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The joke arrives shortly after Apple officially unveiled its first foldable device, known as the iPhone Duo, during its September 9 launch event. With a reported starting price of $1,999, the new device marks Apple’s long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone segment.

Samsung, meanwhile, has been producing foldable phones since 2019 and continues to position itself as an established leader in the category. The company’s newest foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, starts at $1,899, making it slightly cheaper than Apple’s new offering.

In recent weeks, Samsung has released several advertisements and social media posts highlighting its years of experience in foldable technology. The company has repeatedly poked fun at Apple for joining the foldable market later than its competitors while emphasizing the slimmer design, lighter build, and maturity of its latest Galaxy foldable devices.

The latest “Tim Cook” joke is another example of the long-running rivalry between the two tech giants, a competition that often extends beyond product launches into creative marketing campaigns and social media banter.
