Punjab has reached a significant milestone in wildlife conservation with the completion of Pakistan’s first dedicated wildlife hospital at Safari Zoo Lahore. The facility is designed to provide specialized medical care for injured, sick, and rescued wild animals and birds.
The development was announced on September 8, 2026, during a briefing given to Punjab Senior Minister Mariyum Aurangzeb at the Forest and Wildlife Command and Control Centre. Officials said the new hospital will strengthen efforts to protect and rehabilitate wildlife across the province.
The hospital has been equipped with 12 operation theatres and two examination rooms, allowing veterinary teams to conduct medical assessments, surgeries, and treatments in a dedicated environment. The project was launched earlier this year with the aim of introducing modern healthcare facilities for wildlife.
Authorities believe the hospital will play an important role in improving rescue and rehabilitation services for animals that are injured, abandoned, or affected by environmental challenges.
The initiative is part of a broader wildlife conservation strategy being implemented in Punjab. In addition to the hospital, the province has introduced mobile veterinary units and portable diagnostic equipment, enabling medical teams to provide treatment closer to rescue locations and reduce the stress of transporting injured animals over long distances.
Punjab’s wildlife authorities are also adopting modern technology to strengthen conservation efforts. Tools such as artificial intelligence, thermal imaging cameras, satellite monitoring systems, and live surveillance networks are being used to improve forest protection, monitor wildlife habitats, and detect potential fire hazards more effectively.
Officials say these measures reflect the province’s growing focus on combining technology, conservation, and animal welfare to create a stronger system for protecting Pakistan’s wildlife.
