Islamabad Considers Digging Trenches on Key Roads After Container Deployment

Islamabad is set to tighten security measures ahead of planned political demonstrations, with authorities preparing to dig trenches on several major routes linking Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the federal capital.

According to reports, trenches will be created at a number of strategic locations, including GT Road, Chungi No. 26, Pirwadhai, I.J. Principal Road, Aswal Mor, and Kati Pahari. In addition, containers, barricades, and other roadblocks are expected to be placed on key entry points leading into Islamabad.

The arrangements come as multiple political and religious groups gear up for protests and rallies in and around the capital. Among them are Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), with JI’s long march already in progress.

Officials are preparing these measures to maintain security, regulate traffic flow, and prevent large protest caravans from entering sensitive areas of the city.

The planned restrictions are likely to impact commuters traveling between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad, with disruptions expected on several major routes as security preparations continue.
