The Gates Foundation is set to expand its support in Pakistan this year through a range of initiatives aimed at improving the lives of approximately 620,000 women and children across the country.
The planned programmes will focus on key areas such as financial assistance, nutrition, livelihood opportunities, and access to citizen services, with special attention given to vulnerable communities. In South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, one of the foundation’s major initiatives is expected to benefit around 170,000 women and 450,000 children.
Alongside these efforts, the foundation is increasing its involvement in maternal and child healthcare, women’s economic empowerment, and human capital development. The goal is to improve health outcomes, create economic opportunities, and strengthen support systems for families.
The organisation is also exploring ways to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into healthcare services. Officials believe that AI-powered solutions could help improve access to medical care, enhance service delivery, and support more efficient healthcare systems in underserved areas.
During recent discussions with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, representatives of the Gates Foundation reviewed several areas of potential cooperation, including SME financing, agriculture, digital innovation, investment, and economic development.
Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration in sectors such as healthcare, financial inclusion, digital technology, and workforce development. The discussions highlighted a shared interest in using innovation and technology to address long-term development challenges.
The expanded programmes are expected to provide meaningful support to women and children while also encouraging broader social and economic progress. By combining financial assistance, healthcare improvements, and digital solutions, the initiative aims to create lasting benefits for communities across Pakistan.
The foundation’s continued engagement reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with Pakistan in areas that support sustainable development, improved public services, and greater economic inclusion.
